Two Bakersfield police officers shot, in stable condition

Two Bakersfield Police Department officers were shot Wednesday night in southeast Bakersfield and the suspected shooter is dead.

The two officers were listed in stable condition after being taken to a local hospital. The identity of the shooter has not been released.

The incident began at 9:18 p.m. on Wednesday when police were called to a residence at 601 Pacheco Road for a call of a man with a firearm. Police arrived at the residence at 9:32 p.m., and a short time later they reported shots being fired.

Medical aid was requested and both officers were taken to the hospital. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Both officers are expected to survive and will be placed on routine administrative leave upon their release from the hospital.
