Reporter discusses article on health of former Raiders quarterback

He may be one of the most underrated quarterbacks in NFL history, but Jim Plunkett was a Heisman-winning QB who led the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders to a pair of Super Bowl wins during a 16-year career.

Plunkett, now 69 years old, recently sat down San Jose Mercury News sports reporter Elliott Almond to discuss his many ailments, which have required 18 surgeries.

“My life sucks,” Plunkett told Almond. “It’s no fun being in this body right now. Everything hurts.”

During the Aug. 7 episode of “The Richard Beene Show,” host talked with Almond, who was Beene’s former colleague at the Los Angeles Times in the 1990s, about the Plunkett story.
