It is already being called the most expensive race for the House of Representatives ever, and Bakersfield Rep. Kevin McCarthy is trying to keep it in the hands of the Republicans.
The race for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District will be decided on Tuesday night, and has attracted major interest from both parties after Democrat Jon Ossoff nearly won the seat outright in a primary election. Republican Karen Handel was the top Republican vote getter in the primary and has narrowed the race to a dead heat, according to pollsters.
However, the seat has been held by Republicans and became open when Tom Price left the seat to become Health and Human Services Secretary under President Donald Trump. The race has cost an estimated $50 million but Democrats are hoping to flip the seat in their favor, which would be a significant blow to the GOP in the House.
McCarthy, who is the House Majority Leader, was in Georgia campaigning on Handel’s behalf on Monday.
Trump, who narrowly carried the district in November, went on the attack Monday morning, urging voters to elect Handel.
