If there’s one thing that Richard Beene dislikes about Bakersfield it’s trash.
For years, he’s railed against people dumping trash, especially diapers, around the city’s streets, parks, fields and parking lots.
However, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh and members of the Keep Bakersfield Beautiful board of directors drove around town to assess the city’s cleanliness, determining that the city rated a 1.6, with 1 being the cleanest rating, it was too much for Beene to take.
“I think they really did a disservice to themselves because you can’t deal with a problem unless you acknowledge it’s there,” Beene said during the May 19 episode of his “The Richard Beene Show.” “I mean were they on a golf cart at Seven Oaks? ‘I don’t see any litter? Do you? This green looks fine.”’ I mean drive down Wible, drive down Oak, drive down Ming Avenue. Go down the (Highway) 58. Go down anywhere in this town. It’s a mess. We’re terrible.”
