Catching up with Garces Principal Myka Peck

Myka Peck believes her job is a calling.

As the principal of Kern County’s only Catholic high school, there’s a pretty good chance that she’s correct.

“This is where God wants me to be,” Peck told Lisa Kimble Edmontson, who was a guest host of a recent episode of “The Richard Beene Show.”

While Peck is not a Garces grad, she firmly believes in the mission of the school.

“It’s the families that support it and love Garces that make it the school that it is today,” she said.

Peck came to Garces to coach and teach, and she put together a memorable run as the school’s girls soccer coach. During her tenure, the girls soccer team won a pair of CIF-Central Section divisional championships.

However, Peck was focused on advancing at the school, and when she had a chance to become principal in 2015 she took the opportunity.

A graduate of Bakersfield High, Peck was educated at St. Francis School from second through eighth grade. She played soccer at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, and later earned a master’s degree at Cal State University Bakersfield.
