While stationed on the USS Vertal 76 years ago today, Bob Cunningham witnessed Japanese bombs rip through the hull of his ship and that of the USS Arizona. He explains had his skipper not beached the Vertal it too and its men would have perished in a watery grave like the Arizona. Here is Kern County’s last Pearl Harbor survivor, Robert Cunningham.
