Two victims identified, another rescue today at the Kern River

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified two men who drowned in the Kern River recently and search and rescue teams spent part of Monday rescuing a stranded kayaker near Kernville.

The Coroner identified Michael Ramirez, 27, of Buena Park, and Edwin Morales, 22, of Los Angeles, as drowning victims. Ramirez was the subject of an intense search by his friends and family after he went missing in the river on June 22. Ramirez’s body was found at 6:29 p.m. on July 1, about 400 yards from the Keysville South Campground near Lake Isabella.

Morales was found unresponsive in the river on July 1, was taken to Kern Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:41 a.m.

On Monday, search and rescue teams had to rescue a stranded kayaker, who was separated from his kayak near the North Keysville Campground.
