Sheriff deputies recover Bakersfield baby abducted by his babysitter, 13

Kern County Sheriff Deputies have safely recovered an 11-month baby boy who investigators say was abducted by his 13-year-old babysitter.

In a news release, deputies said they were sent at 4 p.m. on Wednesday to the 1700 block of Pacific Street on a “suspicious circumstance investigation.”

When deputies arrived, they spoke with a female who advised she had left her 11-month old son at home in the care of her 13-year-old sister, deputies said. When the mother of the infant returned home, her son and the 13-year-old were no longer at the residence.

The woman saw her car was also missing.

Deputies started an investigation and initiated a Ready Kern alert.

While checking numerous locations where the 13-year-old may have gone, a tip was received from the public. The witness advised she saw the vehicle driving near the area of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Niles Street. Deputies responded to the area and located stolen vehicle near Gage Street and Oregon Street.

The vehicle was occupied by the 13-year-old driver, a 15-year-old, 21-year-old Jorge Montes, and the 11-month old infant. The 11-month old was unharmed.

The two juvenile suspects were booked into the Juvenile Hall for numerous charges including child stealing, vehicle theft, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Montes was arrested and booked into the Central Receiving Facility for possession of a stolen vehicle.
