Terrifying, exciting, and funny, THE STRAIN on the FX channel is a rollercoaster ride of horror.
I have never been much into vampire stories, but a few tickle my fancy… 1931’s DRACULA with Bela Lugosi is a great film; NEAR DARK from 1987 features Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen and Jenette Goldstein in a very cool take on a traveling clan of blood suckers; and LIFEFORCE from 1985 brought us some scary space vampires. There is a handful more, but overall, it ain’t my thing.
But THE STRAIN… this show has me. Maybe it’s because it started out, in the summer of 2014, as a retelling of the original DRACULA. Maybe it’s because the vampires are evil (TWILIGHT-sparkling vampires piss me off). Or maybe it’s because the show never takes itself too seriously. Yeah, I bet it’s all of the above.
I am very happy this popcorn-munching-curled-up-on-the-couch show has returned to the FX network on Sunday nights. Season 2 came out of the gate strong last week and promises more delightful scares and chuckles. Remember to stay in the direct sunlight and never answer the door.
