According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, on Jan. 27, 2012 at approximately 4 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Rite Aid Store on Airport Drive.
When deputies arrived they were told the suspect, Jason Milutin, 29, entered the employees’ area of the store and went through an employee’s purse, which was left on a table. An employee saw Milutin going through the purse and confronted him.
Sheriff's officials said Milutin pulled out a large knife from his backpack and threatened to stab the employee if he tried to stop him from leaving the store.
Milutin fled the store on foot and the employee lost sight of him in the area of Olive Drive and Roberts Lane.
Officials said the employee, or Loss Prevention Officer, provided a description of Milutin to responding deputies, who soon located Milutin hiding next to the railroad tracks near State Road and Highway 99.
After a short foot pursuit, Milutin was arrested. The employee’s belongings were returned and the knife was recovered.
Milutin was booked into the Central Receiving Facility and charged with robbery, criminal threats, and brandishing a deadly weapon. Milutin is being held on $65,000 bail.
