According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 4 p.m, a 27-year-old Bakersfield man, distraught over family issues, climbed to the top of 200-foot-tall PG&E electrical transmission tower and threatened to leap to his death.
Sheriff's officials said the man's sister was contacted and convinced him to come down. PG&E brought in a bucket truck from the Buttonwillow area to assist in the rescue.
After the man was convinced to climb to the bottom of the tower ladder, he was then placed in the bucket and lowered to the ground.
He was transported to Kern Medical Center for mental evaluation.
