Mountain Residents Speak Out Against Wind Farms

FEBRUARY 1, 2012 -- Keep the wind projects out of our backyard, that's the word from residents in the mountains east of Bakersfield.

The Kern County Planning Department on Tuesday proposed to the Board of Supervisors several options that work toward creating boundaries around certain communities to protect them from the wind projects they're constantly fighting.

Brian McDaniel of Twin Oaks told KERO he's one of many people opposed to the projects. "Nobody I've talked to wants these windmills in our valley whatsoever. Stop the destruction of our pristine valley," he said.

In November the Board of Supervisors asked the Planning Department to come up with a plan that would essentially protect certain rural areas from the projects. Tuesday was the deadline.

Before making any final decisions, the board decided to re-work the specific boundaries, meet with the communities involved and get public comment again.
